Email Changes/Upgrades Info

Our migration to the new email server is now complete.  I still have a few minor tweaks to make and I'm sure I will find some more that need to be made. If you are having problems with our Outlook client that a reboot didn't fix, please submit it to your technology coordinator. Please also submit any other email problems to your technology coordinator, I will be making the rounds to resolve those issues shortly.

We do have a few things that are different with the new system. First, the new web interface is GREAT. You can access it by going to https://exchange.winnpsb.org. Users should notice a big speed increase with the new server as well. SPAM filters have also been improved. Now, when users add someone to their safe/blocked sender lists, these lists are stored on the server and will take affect on all of your email, no matter how you access it.  Another feature everyone will like is the increased storage, we have now doubled the size of users mailboxes! Also, users with compatible mobile phones our new server supports IMAP. If you know how to configure this feature on your phone (sorry I can't help you here, seems that every phone is different, try looking at your manual) the incoming and out going IMAP servers are both 'exchange.winnpsb.org', using the default ports.

Thanks for all of your patience,

Rocky Perritt

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Due to several issues, we have upgraded our email system with a new mail server and a new version of the email server software, Microsoft Exchange. We do ask that users remain patient with us during this process. I have started the moving of the individual mail boxes Friday February 29th at 10PM and if my math is right, it could take as long a early Tuesday morning. However, I'm betting it will speed up some over the weekend and be done by start of school on Monday.

For users using Microsoft Outlook 2003/2007, when your mailbox completes the move you will be prompted to restart Outlook. Until then, you should be able to access email as normal (albeit, slow and flaky). After that, you are done and ready to go on the new server.

For users using Microsoft Outlook 2000 and earlier, I'm not sure what will happen. I don't think changes will be made to the client automatically, so your technology coordinator will need to upgrade you to Outlook 2003/2007 or manually make the changes to your mail settings in Outlook 2000. (Incoming and Outgoing mail servers are now exchange.winnpsb.org)

Users of OWA (Outlook Web Access aka the http://www.winnpsb.org/exchange website), after your mail box has been moved you will no longer be able to check your email at the above site. The new and improved OWA site's address is https://exchange.winnpsb.org/. Please note the "s" in the "https" part. It will not work without it. Once we are able to completely decommission the old server I will set up a redirect for the old address to point to the new one.  Also, the new site will give an error about an invalid certificate for a short period of time. It is safe to ignore this error and continue to the webpage. Newer web browsers like Internet Explorer 7 will also display a red address bar and require you to click on a link to get to the site.

Other mail clients are now officially not supported. Clients that rely on POP3 such as the old Outlook Express will no longer work.

Thank-you for your support and understanding over the past few weeks.
