The mission of Winnfield Primary School is "We will work toward academic excellence and show respect to all.

Winnfield Primary School is located in downtown Winnfield at 401 South Saint John Street.  The building that houses that Winnfield Primary is the second oldest school building still used in the city.  The school campus consists of a two-story main building housing all homerooms, a nursing station, speech therapist room, teacher’s lounge and workroom, auditorium to seat approximately 700, the main office, the cafeteria, which services both Winnfield Primary School and Winnfield Intermediate School and the current library, which was added on in recent years.  The school’s activity size gymnasium and a four-classroom building are separate from the main building but attached by covered walkways.  Winnfield Primary School houses grades 1 through 3 within the city of Winnfield.  There are 405 students currently enrolled at WPS.  To meet the needs of all those students, there is 1 principal, 1 curriculum coordinator/parent facilitator, 1 secretary, one librarian, 22 teachers, 9 paraprofessionals, 2 school nurses (also parish-wide), 1 gifted and talented teacher (also parish-wide), 1 janitor, 5 custodial workers, 1 lunchroom manager, and 5 school food technologists.  All teachers and paraprofessionals at WPS are certified and highly-qualified.  Winnfield Primary School has a wonderful playground.  Through community donations, money raised by school fundraisers, and the Rapides Foundation, the WPS playground has more than 10 pieces of equipment including equipment for special needs students.

Students at WPS enjoy self-contained classrooms with daily visits to either PE or Music and weekly visits to the library.  Teachers work very hard to ensure that all students have their individual learning needs met while teaching Reading, Language, Spelling, Handwriting, Mathematics, Social Living (Science and Social Studies), along with Conduct.  All classrooms, including the library, at Winnfield Primary School enjoy the use of Promethean boards, interactive technology boards.  All classrooms also have at least one iPad2 for student use.  Students are taught through the appropriate use of this technology more meaningful, real life applications.  Students who attend Winnfield Primary School can enjoy enrichment and/or gifted instruction or intervention instruction whatever their need may be.
