The mission of Winnfield Intermediate School is to promote student achievement through academic, social, and personal growth. Winnfield Intermediate School is located on four acres at 400 South Saint John Street in Winnfield, LA. WIS is comprised of approximately 260 students in grades 4-5. The main building of Winnfield Intermediate School housed Winnfield High School from 1928 to 1964. Winnfield Intermediate School has housed grades 4 and 5 at various times since 1964. Winnfield Intermediate School has several co-curricular clubs including 4th and 5th grade 4-H clubs sponsored by the Louisiana Cooperative Extention Service and 4th and 5th grade Honors Clubs Sponsored by WIS faculty members. Winnfield Intermediate School recognizes student achievement each nine weeks at an Awards Program. Students are rewarded for excellence in academics, conduct, attendance, and reading achievements. At the end of the year, students are recognized for Principal’s List, Honor Roll, perfect attendance, AR achievements, club participation, and outstanding PE achievements. The Winnfield Intermediate School library is housed in an outside building adjunct to the main building on the WIS campus. Students attend weekly library classes where they receive instruction about informational resources and test taking strategies. Students have the opportunity to borrow two books each week from the library. WIS has an annual subscription to the Accelerated Reader Program. At WIS, students have the opportunity to complete reading comprehension tests on all tests available on the AR program. |
